I'm a teacher at a school in Manhattan, and our school is looking to implement an effective phone policy this year that will best support our students' learning and mental wellbeing. Two challenges we've faced in deciding on and implementing a policy is pushback (1) from parents that they want to be able to contact their student throughout the day, in case of emergency, and (2) from students who want to be able to leave campus during free periods/lunch (this is currently allowed in our "open campus" policy, but something they'd need their phones for). We also don't have a great method/place to "collect" phones. The Brick could be a great solution for us, and so many other schools. Imagine a situation in which: -A single Brick is used for an entire school, placed at the door for students to tap on their way in/out of the building -Admin presets allow school admin to preselect what apps are allowed. Could allow more apps for older students, and keep it more restrictive for younger ones. Phone is always enabled, which solves the problem of parents wanting to be able to contact their student in case of emergency. -A log to show who has Bricked their phones, and when This could even slowly retrain students brains to crave their phone less. Their phone would still be in their pocket, but it wouldn't deliver the same dopamine as it does now. I really think the Brick could become the hottest tool on the market for schools. Way better than the Yondr pouches!
